Role in TRANSFORM2
Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU is included in WP 4 in a feasibility study for not-yet-ready NFOs for EEWS. SLO KARST NFO site located in SW Slovenia covers an area of 2,600 km2 and is not a full NFO member yet. The strongest earthquake in this area was in 1956 with magnitude 5.6 in the area of Ilirska Bistrica town. In the area, there are Dinaric-oriented (NW-SE) active faults with dextral horizontal movement, such as the Idrija Fault, Predjama Fault and Raša Fault. The role of Karst Research Institute in WP 4 is to cooperate with other institutions to determine the feasibility of the SLO KARST NFO site for EEWS (early earthquake warning system) by using the most appropriate existing software platforms. The role of Karst Research Institute is also to fulfill all necessities that will enable SLO KARST NFO to become a full member of the NFO community.
