University of Patras (UPAT)

Role in TRANSFORM2

The UPAT (Seismological Laboratory and members of Geology Department) as a partner, besides its key role in the Project Governance (WP1) plays a pivotal role in the Earthquake Early Warning Systems (EEWS) project, contributing significantly across multiple work packages.

In WP2, UPAT is involved in the deployment and testing of innovative instruments, which are crucial for advancing the monitoring capabilities of NFOs. It contributes to evaluating the performance of these devices in diverse environmental conditions, to assess their feasibility for long-term deployment and real-time data streaming.

In WP3, UPAT collaborates on the development and testing of advanced seismic event detection and characterization algorithms, with a focus on refining these systems for more accurate and timely earthquake warnings.

In WP4, UPAT plays a key role in implementing and optimizing Earthquake Early Warning methods, particularly focusing on the integration of real-time data for accurate ground shaking predictions.

in WP5, UPAT ensures the smooth integration of new seismic and geophysical instruments into NFO infrastructures, contributing to the operational enhancement of EEWS. UPAT’s effort across these work packages is essential to enhancing the operational readiness of NFOs and improving the real-time monitoring and alerting capabilities of the EEWS.
